I have been a nurse for over thirty years, and a writer for many more. My two passions are helping others and writing. And when I can combine the two, it's pretty exciting for me.
For over three years I was the Guide to Nursing at About.com (part of The New York Times Company). It was a great opportunity to interact with nurses and those who are becoming nurses or thinking about a career in nursing. I also learned a lot about writing for the web and SEO. When they decided to disband the Nursing.About.com site and I moved that content to my own Website and blog (The Nursing Site.com). I continue to update these sites weekly.
In 2006, I wrote The Everything New Nurse Book. It has been so popular that in 2009, Adams Media repurposed it into 150 Tips and Tricks for New Nurses.
I also have a couple of Websites for home health care nurses and professionals. My primary role as a nurse has been working in home health care. I was a field nurse for many years. Then I moved into management and became a nursing supervisor and then a quality improvement (QI) specialist which also involved staff education. I have spent many years helping nurses learn to write and document better.
In March 2006, I began to write about the health care field and Medicare for Suite101.com. And in March 2009, I began writing about Mental Health at Examiner.com as the LA Mental Health Examiner. (Note please that these are proprietary sites and I cannot place any ads on these sites. There are restrictions to the use of content from these sites as well. )

In 2008, I turned my home health nursing knowledge and experience into a book called The Everything Guide to Caring for Your Aging Parents which was published in Feb. 2009. See My Books page for details. My eighty (plus) year old mom thinks it's all about her, but actually she's still too independent for much of it to apply to her! I have a blog (AboutAgingParents.com) dedicated to helping caregivers find resources, support and assistance with caring for aging parents and others.
For many years, I have written and desktop published newsletters for Realtors and other professionals, youth organizations, and various PTAs. I also designed and published websites for many of these same groups and individuals. You'll find some examples on my Other Writing page. (Email me if you want to see these as they won't publish here correctly.)
In the past couple of years, I have also contributed articles, blogs, and other materials to several nursing sites. You can read more about this on My Websites page.
I have been married for over thirty years to a wonderful man, Tim, an engineer and technical solutions manager for a distribution firm. He is my rock and my north!!! We have three terrific adult children, Amy, Rob and Becky. They are all my life and my reason for being.
To read ore about my professional experience, you can open a .pdf version of MY RESUME.
If you want to use any of the content on my blogs or websites, please email me and let's discuss terms. THANK YOU!
